A call was received Tuesday October 30th of a rescue mission to save 12 Chincoteague Ponies trapped in 4 feet of fast moving water on the East Shore of Virginia.
The call came in several hours after the emergency situation due to phone lines down.
The ponies had been trapped for hours, enhancing the fear of drowning and hypothermia.
Volunteers in the area jumped into action in an attempt to rescue the ponies. One foal was lost before they could be rescued.
The surviving ponies were taken to a near by farm until other arrangements could be made.
4 of the ponies were transported Wednesday to the Chincoteague Pony Rescue while the others wait for transportation and arrangements of temporary shelter. Other than some minor injuries, all are doing fine.
This mission will again put a major strain on the Chincoteague Pony Rescue with the need for additional shelters, hay, feed, financial assistance and transportation costs.
We need everyone's help with this rescue mission!! Please spread the word to everyone you know that can help. Contact businesses in your area who may have supplies we can use!!
We need: Hay, Feed, Feed Tubs, Water Tanks, Bedding, Lumber, Roofing Tin, Trencher for new water lines and Man Power.
